Who is Volo in BG3?

Volo, a major character in Baldur’s Gate 3, is encountered by players in the Druid Grove. He is known not just for his presence in this serene location but also as the “Camp Follower” and a prominent writer, brings a distinct and intriguing flavour to the game. Volo, as a Camp Follower, may have an impact on the camp dynamic by providing aid, insights, or tasks to other players. His status as a writer suggests a deeper commitment, implying that he may play an important role in unfolding the narrative or disclosing lore within the complex universe of Baldur’s Gate 3.

Why is Volo Not At Camp in BG3?

Volo’s fate is determined by the players’ actions in Baldur’s Gate 3’s complex environment. Volo may unexpectedly disappear from the story if players fail to release him from the cage before raising tensions with the goblin camp. The implications of not interfering on his behalf demonstrate the game’s dynamic storytelling, in which player choices have a substantial impact on the events that transpire.

This disappearance adds an element of unpredictability to the gameplay, pushing players to ponder the consequences of their actions and enhancing the immersive aspect of the narrative in Baldur’s Gate 3.

Where To Find Volo Outside of The Camp in BG3

Act 1 of Baldur’s Gate 3 features multiple encounters with Volo. He begins by speaking with a bear in the calm Druid Grove. After speaking with him, you discover that he is curious about a Goblin group attempting to attack the grove. Later, he visits the Goblin camp to learn why they chant “Absolute” instead of “Maglubiyet.” You will meet him again at the camp, forced to entertain the Goblins.

After meeting him, he moves to the Shattered Sanctum as a prisoner, prompting a quest to free him. Eventually, you discover him and obtain the Blazer of Benevolence for saving his life. It’s a voyage full of interactions with this intriguing character.

How To Save Volo Without Him Disappearing From The Camp?

To begin the “Rescue the Volo” mission in the game, players must first travel to the Goblin Camp. When speaking with Volo at the camp, he reveals his desire to be free of the Goblin Group. Head to the northern half of the camp to discover the Shattered Sanctum, where Volo can be found within a cage guarded by goblin Gribbo.

Talk to Gribbo, persuade her to give you the key to Volo’s cage (using Psionic power or testing), or pass a deception/intimidation check. Take care not to make Goblins aggressive. If you succeed, talk to Volo, acquire the key, and set him free. After that, invite him to your campsite to finish the “Rescue Volo” quest.

Rewards of Rescuing Volo

After releasing Volo from the Goblin’s Cage at the camp, players are rewarded with the “Blazer of Benevolence”. Additionally, if you allow Volo to examine you, he detects a Parasite in your skull. The next day, Volo removes the parasite, resulting in the loss of one eye. However, Volo replaces the missing eye with a prosthetic one, allowing you to view invisible creatures. So, while the loss of an eye may appear scary, the artificial replacement offers a distinct edge in detecting invisible enemies.

To Wrap it all Up

In conclusion, Baldur’s Gate 3 unfolds a captivating narrative with diverse characters like Volo, contributing to immersive gameplay. Volo, encountered at the Druid Grove, serves as both a “Camp Follower” and a significant writer, enriching the game’s depth. However, players may experience Volo’s disappearance if they fail to release him from a cage before heightening tensions with the goblin camp, emphasizing the game’s dynamic storytelling. Volo’s reappearances throughout Act 1, from the Druid Grove to the Goblin camp and Shattered Sanctum, showcase the character’s intriguing journey. To save Volo without him disappearing, players must navigate the rescue mission at the Goblin camp, unlocking unique rewards like the “Blazer of Benevolence” and gaining the ability to see invisible creatures with Volo’s prosthetic eye.
