The creator of Jujutsu Kaisen, Gege Akutami, recently disclosed at Jump Festa that the manga is nearing its final phases and should conclude by 2024. As the primary antagonist Sukuna fully wakes and significant individuals meet their demise, the tale is gradually building to its conclusion.
A message from Gege Akutami was conveyed with the audience by the voice actress portraying Megumi Fushiguro at the Jujutsu Kaisen panel at Jump Festa 2024 Yuma Uchida. Megumi Fushiguro and Gojo Satoru, who are heading the panel and providing the voices for Sukuna, revealed the cover art for Volume 25, which features Sukuna. In addition, the occasion served as a celebration of the manga’s accomplishment of selling over 90 million copies, which cemented its status as one of the most popular series to date and raised expectations for it to hit 100 million. In order to further heighten anticipation, a teaser film featuring Gojo and Sukuna’s fierce argument was released. The voice actors skillfully recreated the dialogue from the manga, giving viewers a glimpse into upcoming chapters. Despite all these announcements there was a shadow cast by the authors mention of an impending conclusion, to the series that left a bittersweet feeling in everyones hearts.
Jujutsu Kaisen’s decision to conclude in 2024 is in line with the plot’s development towards its arc. The pivotal conflict between the heroes and villains frequently signals the conclusion of shonen series. A new opponent being introduced by Jujutsu Kaisen to extend the story, as was done in Black Clover, would not be suitable. In Jujutsu Kaisen, Sukuna is introduced as the adversary right away.
It’s worth noting that numerous manga authors have previously committed to concluding their series by a certain point, only to extend the timeline, as seen with Kohei Horikoshi’s My Hero Academia and Eiichiro Oda’s One Piece. While fans of Jujutsu Kaisen would prefer the series to continue, the importance of delivering a satisfying ending to solidify the series’ legacy is acknowledged.
