hydra grow a garden

Among all pets and rewards, the Hydra pet Grow a Garden has emerged as one of the most sought-after companions in the game due to its rarity and powerful abilities. This guide explains everything you need to know about Hydra in Grow a Garden, including how to get it, what it does, why it is useful, and how to use it to improve your gameplay.

What Is Hydra in Grow a Garden?

The Hydra is a Divine-tier pet introduced during the Safari Harvest Event in Season 2. It is visually distinct with three heads and offers passive abilities that enhance your garden automatically. Unlike standard plants or pets, Hydra significantly accelerates your garden progression once unlocked. Its unique growth and automation abilities make it one of the most valuable pets in the game.

How to Get the Hydra Pet

Hydra is obtainable through the Season Pass during the Safari Harvest Event, typically by reaching Tier 47 on the Season 2 pass. To unlock Hydra, players need to participate in the event, complete daily quests, harvest crops, and grow mutated plants to gain progress on the Season Pass. Once Tier 47 is reached, the Hydra pet can be claimed. If the event ends before you unlock it, Hydra may only become available again during future events or limited-time passes.

Hydra’s Abilities Explained

Hydra has two main passive abilities that make it a strong companion:

Three-Headed Ability

Every 20–41 minutes, Hydra automatically adds one level to itself, fully hatches one egg, and applies a Terran mutation to a random fruit in your garden. This happens independently and does not require manual input from the player.

Earth Deity Ability

When you sell a fruit with a Terran mutation, Hydra gives a 6–12% chance to spread a random mutation from that fruit to another fruit in your garden. This helps duplicate mutations automatically, improving overall garden productivity.

Together, these abilities make Hydra a mutation accelerator and time-saving companion.

Why Hydra Is Worth Getting

Hydra automates egg hatching, speeds up mutations, and performs actions no other pet can replicate. It also increases farming efficiency even when you are idle or focusing on other parts of the game. Players consider Hydra one of the best pets in Grow a Garden because of its combination of automation, mutation support, and rarity.

How to Use Hydra Correctly

To maximize Hydra’s effectiveness:

  • Focus on crops that can undergo Terran mutations, as its abilities depend on mutation interactions.
  • Time your harvests after Hydra’s cycles complete to increase the chance of mutation spreading.
  • Pair Hydra with other pets that boost growth or harvest speed to further improve efficiency.
  • Design your garden layout to take full advantage of Hydra’s passive abilities rather than treating it as a side addition.

Hydra vs Pitcher Plant

While Pitcher Plant is easier to use and works well in mid-game setups, Hydra outperforms it in efficiency and long-term benefits. Advanced players often replace Pitcher Plant setups with Hydra-focused builds to optimize resource generation and garden progression.

Why Hydra Is a Must-Have Pet in Grow a Garden

The Hydra pet in Grow a Garden is not just a cosmetic item; it is a game-changing companion that enhances mutation rates, automates egg hatching, and improves overall garden efficiency. Unlocking Hydra is a worthwhile investment for serious players, giving a long-term advantage in garden progression and making it one of the most valuable pets in the game.
