Stardew Valley Guide

Stardew Valley welcomes you to the world of farming, where possibilities are endless, and your journey on the old farm begins. It can be a tad overwhelming initially, but fear not! This beginner’s guide is here to ensure you not only learn the ropes of being a great farmer but also maximize your early game experience in the most delightful way possible.

Selecting the Best Farm Type for You

When creating your character, don’t overlook the importance of choosing the right farm type. Each offers a unique experience, and picking the one that aligns with your preferences can significantly impact your Stardew Valley journey.

Farm TypeDescription
Standard FarmPerfect for beginners, offering the most land for crops and animals. Crops and animals are lucrative and beginner-friendly activities.
Riverland FarmIdeal for fishing enthusiasts, transforming your farm into a river-filled paradise. Fishing here is enjoyable, although not the most profitable.
Forest FarmFocuses on foraging with abundant bushes and unique foraging items. Offers access to hardwood and reasonable farming space.
Hill-Top FarmTailored for mining enthusiasts, reducing farming land but introducing a new mining area with stones, ores, and geodes.
Wilderness FarmMonsters spawn at night relative to your combat level, introducing unique monster types like wilderness golems.
Four Corners FarmA multiplayer map, dividing the farm into four smaller farms, each incorporating features from the Standard, Forest, Riverland, and Hill-Top farms.
Beach FarmResembles a beach, featuring excellent fishing spots but limiting the use of sprinklers. Occasional supply crates wash up on the shore.

Things to Do: Spend Time Clearing the Farm

Clearing your farm is a crucial early-game task. While crafting materials are essential, preserving some grass for future hay production is equally important. Managing energy is key, so start by using about half of it each day for clearing. Consider building a Chest early on to store your growing supplies.

Don’t Forget to Upgrade Your Tools

Upgrading tools is your ticket to breaking rocks, cutting wood efficiently, and watering plants with ease. Prioritize upgrading the watering can initially for more efficient watering. Visit Clint the Blacksmith, exchange money, and bars of copper, iron, gold, and iridium to incrementally upgrade your tools.

Still Time Left in the Day? Go Forage!

Foraging is a fantastic option when energy is running low. Take a stroll around the map, harvest plants and berries for energy, or sell them for gold. Foraging is a great way to supplement your income and keep your farm flourishing.

Fish Your Way to Wealth

Fishing is a leisurely activity that can bring in additional gold. Willy the fisherman provides a fishing pole on day 2, unlocking this delightful pastime. With some luck, you can earn 300+ gold worth of fish a day, enhancing your early-game finances.

Save Your Money for the Egg Festival!

Halfway through Spring, the Egg Festival takes center stage. While the festival itself is not a major money-maker, Pierre’s vendor stand sells Strawberry Seeds. Investing in these seeds at 100G each is a wise move. Plant them immediately after the festival, as each strawberry sells for 120G, offering continuous returns.

Focus on Growing Crops

In your first season, concentrate on growing crops. Delay tool upgrades and other activities to build a healthy gold reserve. This approach sets you up for a profitable Summer, allowing you to afford new tools and house upgrades.

Check out the Community Center

Unlock the Community Center by watching a cutscene after a few days. A note from a Wizard guides you to his tower, south of your farm, unlocking the ability to read scrolls in the Community Center. Early participation in quests is crucial, as some are season-locked.

Check the Bulletin Board!

The bulletin board outside the General Store provides valuable information. Birthdays, events, and quests are displayed. Completing quests and giving gifts on birthdays can significantly improve your relationships with the townsfolk.

Friends are a Wonderful Thing

Building friendships in Pelican Town is rewarding. Give gifts to NPCs to improve relationships, unlock special options, and even romance certain characters. Check the bulletin board for clues on NPCs’ likes and dislikes.

Quests

Completing quests is an excellent way to spend your time in Pelican Town. Four types of quests are available, including Story Quests, Special Orders, Qi’s Special Orders, and Help Wanted. Each type offers unique insights and rewards.

Stardew Valley Cross-Platform Multiplayer

As of now, Stardew Valley does not support cross-platform multiplayer. Co-Op mode is available on PC, Mac, Nintendo Switch, PS4, and Xbox One, with the exception of one player on PC and the other on a Mac or a Linux-based OS.

Embark on your Stardew Valley adventure armed with these tips, and soon you’ll be a master farmer, reaping the rewards of your hard work! Happy farming!
