What is The Ruins Bug for Withers Not Showing in BG3?

One of the early obstacles in Baldur’s Gate 3 is a side quest involving ruins, which is typically completed later due to its difficulty for new parties. The ruins discovered following the Mind Flayer ship crash contain risks that may dissuade players. If left undiscovered for too long, a glitch may appear, preventing quest completion.

To navigate the ruins, look for the locked door near a teleport waypoint. To get there, go amid the wreckage and find the temple on the cliff. This glitch emphasises the significance of exploring in a timely manner to avoid mission obstacles in the game.

Why is Withers Not Showing in BG3?

If you don’t see Withers in Baldur’s Gate 3 during the Explore the Ruins mission, your game may contain a glitch. Withers is supposed to appear in the Dank Crypt, notably in a small room with an elaborate tomb. Opening the sarcophagus causes Withers to appear and start a discussion (the Speak with the Dead amulet may be required).

When you successfully enter The Ruins in Baldur’s Gate 3, you’ll find a bunch of bandits guarding a Dank Crypt. Overcoming the bandits and entering the crypt results in a struggle with skeletons. Following this encounter, you can open an unusual sarcophagus to meet Withers. Withers joins your camp permanently, allowing you to change classes at any time.

If you wait too long to explore the ruins, Withers may emerge to your camp on their own. While this does not impair his usefulness, it breaks the mission progression for Explore the Ruins, making it appear impossible. Fortunately, there is a simple approach to resolve this issue.

  1. If you wait too long before exploring the ruins in Baldur’s Gate 3, Withers may appear at your camp automatically.
  2. Although this doesn’t affect Withers’ functionality, it causes a disruption in the quest progression for Explore the Ruins, making it seem unattainable.
  3. Fortunately, there is a straightforward solution to fix this issue.

You’ll now have a new dialogue option about the plaque, which you can debate with him to complete the objective.

Regardless of how you solve it, you will receive the same XP and awards. The major purpose of the quest is to locate Withers and gain the ability to respec. Once you’ve recruited him to your camp, you can consider the quest fulfilled and move on to other tasks.
