Sony and Santa Monica Studio have announced a remake of the original God of War trilogy. The reveal happened during the February 12, 2026 State of Play presentation. The remake celebrates the franchise’s 20th anniversary.
The remake will revisit the first three mainline God of War games. Santa Monica Studio said the trilogy is in very early development. Fans will have to wait for more details.
Original Kratos voice actor TC Carson joined the announcement. He returns to help introduce the project. His participation ensures the remake honors the Greek mythology era that defined the early games.
The studio did not share a release date, platforms, or gameplay footage. They said they will provide updates as development progresses.
God of War: Sons of Sparta Is Out Now
Alongside the trilogy remake, Sony released God of War: Sons of Sparta. This is a 2D action platformer set during Kratos’ youth. It focuses on his early training with his brother Deimos at the Spartan Agoge.
Mega Cat Studios developed Sons of Sparta in partnership with Santa Monica Studio. The game features hand‑drawn pixel art, new enemies, and a canonical story that expands the God of War universe. It is available now on PlayStation 5.
TC Carson also appears in Sons of Sparta as narrator, linking this new title to the broader franchise.
What This Means for Fans
The announcement confirms plans to revisit the Greek saga that began the franchise. The remake will bring these classic titles to modern platforms. Details on scope, features, or release remain unknown.
