Tactical Role-Playing Video Games (TRPGs) have carved a significant niche in the gaming world, offering players a strategic and immersive experience. One iconic title is Final Fantasy Tactics, released in 1997, which combined intricate storytelling with deep tactical combat. The Fire Emblem series, originating in 1990, gained international acclaim for its challenging battles and character permadeath feature. XCOM: Enemy Unknown, a modern classic released in 2012, brought tactical gameplay to the realm of extraterrestrial warfare, captivating players with its intense decision-making. These games, along with classics like Disgaea and the more recent success of games like Divinity: Original Sin 2, showcase the enduring popularity and evolving complexity of Tactical RPGs across different eras of gaming. Today, we are going to talk about Jagged Alliance 3 Review
Review of The Game “Jagged Alliance 3”
With in-depth squad customization and different ways to play, they can manage a team of memorable mercenaries in the game. They rarely chuckle at the game’s sense of humour, but that doesn’t matter when they’re creating a beautiful symphony of devastation… or watching it all come crashing down because everyone misses an easy shot on the same round. When they hear that, they always chuckle.
Jagged Alliance has returned to confront players after a long absence, but they are not complaining. A 25-hour game was spoiled by bad luck, overconfidence, and opposition mortar fire, and there’s little chance of it being rectified. They do, however, understand what went wrong and have built a new squad.
While many people identify XCOM with squad tactics, fans have long admired Jagged Alliance 2 from 1999 for its unique blend of tactical combat, mercenary management, and RPG elements. It was harsh yet funny, like a cross between The A-Team and Commando, and was inspired by old action flicks.
Plot of Jagged Alliance 3
Jagged Alliance 3 takes place a few years after the original in Grand Chien, a town known for its diamond mining. The president has been kidnapped by a local warlord, and his daughter has requested that the player lead a team to retrieve him and possibly save the country.
However, with only $40,000, the player must go for the B-Team. The majority of the previous mercenaries have returned, along with some new faces, providing a diverse group to pick from. The game maintains a hilarious mood, and while some may not enjoy it, the player believes it adds a lot to the fun. Each mercenary is equivalent to a full RPG party member, with approximately 36 available for hire and a few more to be found in the world.
Fun Strategy of The Game
The most interesting component of Jagged Alliance 3 is figuring out how to win battles with your little squad against larger, less-equipped enemy units. It’s challenging at start because you might only be able to purchase a few mercenaries, and some of them might just carry pistols and shotguns. However, as you develop, you will be able to supply better armour and weaponry to your troops.
As your squad fights, they progress in a variety of ways. They can do incredible things as they level up. Instead of four mercenaries equipped with handguns, you may send a machine gun to keep enemies hidden while snipers dispatch them and someone else rushes around stabbing others with a huge knife.
Hiring an experienced merc with a modified machine gun capable of taking down 5-6 opponents in a single match can be pretty beneficial. As you learn these tricks, you’ll realise how difficult the game is.
One peculiarity is that you cannot see how likely your assaults are to hit, so you must guess. Although it appears realistic, it makes the game more difficult to play.
To Wrap it all Up
Jagged Alliance 3 returns with a blend of humor, strategy, and tactical gameplay. The game’s squad customization and diverse playstyles provide a memorable experience, even if the humor doesn’t always hit the mark. A 25-hour campaign met an unfortunate end due to bad luck, overconfidence, and enemy mortar fire, leading to a fresh start with a new squad.
Set in the diamond-rich Grand Chien, the plot revolves around rescuing the kidnapped president, offering a humorous yet challenging journey. With a mix of old and new mercenaries, each character adds depth to the game’s engaging strategy. Jagged Alliance 3 successfully modernizes while maintaining the essence of its predecessors.
